Porsche Fuhrmann engine
Patented by Dr. Fuhrmann of Porsche for motorsport purpose.
Structural concept:
The Fuhrmann engine (Type 547) is an air-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder racing engine featuring a complex four-camshaft valvetrain driven by vertical shaft systems and bevel gears.
Its lightweight aluminum construction, dual ignition system and high-revving architecture were developed specifically for endurance motorsport.
The Fuhrmann engine powered Porsche’s early racing successes, including the 550 Spyder and 356 Carrera models, and established Porsche’s reputation for high-revving, lightweight competition engines.
